Back in downtown Boston!

Boskone is a community of science fiction fans and professionals who get together every year to immerse themselves in sf literature, art, music, film & anime, gaming, filking, and special events, and to celebrate our great Guests of Honor!

David Brin - Guest of Honor

David Brin is an imaginative and insightful writer whose works have earned him Hugo, Campbell, and Nebula awards. Some of his more noted titles are Startide Rising, The Uplift War, and Brightness Reef in the Uplift Saga; while other works include The Postman, Earth, and Glory Season.

Jim Burns - Official Artist

Jim Burns is a multiple Hugo-award winning artist. All his works are highly realistic depictions of science fiction scenarios, cleanly illustrating the worlds described in the books they grace.

Charles N. Brown - Special Guest

Charles Brown is the founder and Editor Emeritus of Locus, the premier journal of the science fiction trade, as well as the editor and publisher of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror indexes from 1984 to 1991, and is a permanent fixture on the sf scene.

Clam Chowder - Featured Filker

Clam Chowder is a small musical group from Maryland which plays an eclectic collection of British and American folk songs, sea chanteys, unusual songs from all sources, original material, and anything else that presents opportunities for close harmony.

Boskone in Brief

Back in Boston! Ya-Hoo!
(Woot! even!)

Our Facilities

Boskone will be housed completely in the Sheraton Boston Hotel at 39 Dalton Street in downtown Boston. All official Boskone activities will take place in the hotel's function space, and our convention rate for rooms is $119 single, $129 double, $139 triple, $149 quad. Please be sure to reserve your room early, by calling Sheraton Reservations at 800-325-3535, and mentioning "New England Science Fiction" to get the Boskone room rate. Contact us at info@boskone.org for suite information. The Sheraton Boston is connected to the Prudential Mall and Copley Place, where Boskone members can dine at Marché Movenpick, a choice of two Legal Sea Foods, or many other restaurants within a short walking distance. There is also a fully enclosed walking route from Amtrak's Back Bay Station to our facilities (detailed directions will be in our next Progress Report).

Program

The program at Boskone includes panel discussions, presentations, hands-on demonstrations, kaffeeklatsches (small group discussions with the author of your choice), concerts and author readings and signings. The subjects of these items are science fiction, fantasy, science fact, education, fandom, and a host of related topics. About 100 writers, editors, publishers, artists, art directors, scientists, and fans will participate in our programming.

Children's Program

Boskone 40 will host Dragonslair for children 7-12 years of age. Dragonslair consists of arts and crafts, storytelling, and structured play featuring noted sf-genre pros. Space Cadets is a program during the day at Boskone for 2½-to 6-year-olds with pre-school activities.
(Sorry, we will not be offering babysitting at Boskone this year.)

Special Events

Meet the VIPs, attend the Clam Chowder Concert, dance and play whist as part of the Regency Tea, and attend the featured program presentations by our Guests.

Art Show

This year's Art Show will showcase works by Official Artist Jim Burns, as well as over 50 other artists from New England and beyond. Art Programming will include demonstrations, discussions, docent tours of the Art Show guided by a professional artist, and the ever popular Dueling Easels competition.

Dealers' Room

New, used, and out-of-print science fiction, fantasy, and related books are the focus of the Boskone Dealers' Room, but you can also find jewelry, sculpture, artwork, games, cards, and other budget-busting toys.

Animé & Video Program

Our animé sempei have been working hard since last Boskone devising a schedule of unusual and entertaining animé and video features you're not likely to see on cable.

Other Cool Stuff

"'Zat all?" No way, José! We'll also have gaming, filking, autographing, and other way cool happenings.
