A book review by Elisabeth Carey
This is an early fantasy novel from Gene Wolfe, originally published in 1976. It's not nearly as strange as, say, Castleview, but the beautiful prose is there, as well as the subtle and sideways character development. I do have a blurb complaint; the cover blurb didn't contain spoilers, it just led me to expect a rather different book. It's not much of a complaint, because I did enjoy the book I got, but I think it suffered a bit from the fact that I kept waiting for the turn in the plot that would turn this into that other book, and it never happened.
Recommendation: read the book not the blurb.
