Program
Updated schedule and program participant list are up.
Boskone Program offers panels, talks, discussions, demos, and workshops on many aspects of the science fiction and fantasy field. We include items about hard SF and fantasy, science and art, fandom and movies, literature and TV, horror and comics, music and singing, and heaps of related topics! Program also includes interviews with our Guest of Honor, slide-shows and demos with our artists, and individual presentations. These are the types of presentations and settings you can expect at Boskone—since many panels run concurrently, it will be your tough decision as to what to attend! Complete schedule is up!
In addition to a variety of Program, Boskone runs parties and entertainment Friday and Saturday night:
- Friday, beginning at 8pm—Fangtasia Welcomes the Maker, and Art Show Reception
I, Eric Norseman, my assistant Pam, and the vampires of Louisiana have prepared an evening event to honor the Maker. We welcome all humans, shifters, and immortals to join us at the Fangtasia Bar (also known as the Galleria Ballroom) beginning at 8pm. True Blood will be available for those so inclined, as well as a bar and snacks for our mortal and shifter friends. (Script for Fangtasia Welcomes the Maker)
The Boskone Art Show Reception begins at 10pm, immediately following this costume-friendly event, near the Art Show portion of the Galleria. - Saturday afternoon we'll have a Boskone Tea Party celebrating the launch of two NESFA Press books: Scratch Monkey by Boskone GoH Charles Stross and Admiralty: Volume Four of the Short Fiction of Poul Anderson. There will be poppyseed cake to go with the tea from Jo Walton, Priscilla Olson and the traditional 1970s recipe from Roy Krupp, passed on to Kris Benders and then to Jon Singer. Additional poppyseed cake bakers welcome! E-mail Geri Sullivan if you can bake a poppyseed cake.
- Saturday, beginning at 8pm—Featured Filk Concert, Awards Ceremony, Radio Play
The Featured Filk Concert with Erica Neely opens the evening followed by the annual awards ceremony at 9. At 9:30, the stage will turn into a radio studio, as Neptune Theater presents "Giant's Tooth," based on a story by Bruce Coville. The cast will feature Bruce Coville, Jane Yolen, Larry Seiler, Dave Grubbs, Larry Pfeffer and Tim Szczesuil.
Throughout the weekend, Boskone will have mini-musical events in the Galleria.
Higgins Armory will present demos of fighting styles, ranging from medieval dagger displays to light saber duels.
Kunstbruder will present informal training in swordsmanship.
Types of Programming
- Anime/Video—A track of anime and video for your viewing pleasure
- Art Demos—See Artists in action!
- Autographs—Program participants will sign your books in the Galleria on Saturday and Sunday (you can get lots from the Hucksters!).
- Discussion Groups—Join program participants and other members in the Boskone Con Suite, our very own "living room of fandom." Discussion groups are small intimate conversations on focused topics—and we invite you to form your own group ("Birds of a Feather"). E-mail your ideas to program@boskone.org.
- Filksinging—Filksongs are fandom's folk songs, with themes of SF, fantasy and fannish interests. Items include theme circles, NESFA Hymnal singing and the Featured Filker Concert. There are plans for "philosophical filk songs"—Erica Neeley teaches philosophy at college.
- Kaffeeklatsches/Literary Beers—Participate an informal discussion with one of our program participants over coffee, tea, or beer. Attendance is limited; sign up is required. Sign-up for these at the Program Desk near Information.
