coverContacting Aliens: An Illustrated Guide to David Brin’s Uplift Universe

by David Brin and Kevin Lenagh

A book review by Mark L. Olson

Bantam Signet, 2002, 191 pp, $14.95.

Here’s an intensely fannish sort of book. It’s written sort of as a handbook for humans in the 2400s late in the period Brin writes about in his Uplift stories. It’s a handbook about the greater (and terribly dangerous) Galactic world in which they have found themselves.

Most of the information in the book comes out of the stories – I can’t tell just by reading it if Brin has added anything new or not, but if he has, it isn’t a lot. The illustrations by Lenagh are quite good and do justice to the material.
