The Warrior's Apprentice
by Lois McMaster Bujold

Baen Books, 1986, 315 pp, $2.95
Introducing Miles Vorkosigan, hyperkinetic midget strategist.
It's easy to see how Bujold's Vorkosigan stories have gone from strength to strength when this is an early example of her writing!
The Warrior's Apprentice tells how Miles fails the entrance exam for the Barryaran Imperial Service Academy, and while on a trip to visit his grandmother, accidentally acquires a mercenary fleet and ends a planetary war...
Marvelous! It was a pleasure to re-read.
