Program
Boskone Program offers panels, talks, discussions, demos, and
workshops on many aspects of the science fiction and fantasy field, populated by a wide
assortment of speakers. We
include items about hard SF and fantasy, science and art,
fandom and movies, literature and TV, horror and comics, music and
singing, and heaps of related topics! Program also includes
interviews with our Guest of Honor, slide-shows and demos with our
artists, and individual presentations. These are the types of
presentations and settings you can expect at Boskone—since
many panels run concurrently, it will be your tough decision as to
what to attend! If you have questions, write to Program.
Types of Programming
- Art Demos—See Artists in action!
- Autographs—Program participants will sign your books in the Galleria on Saturday and Sunday (you can get lots from the Hucksters!).
- Concerts—Performances by our Featured Musician Guest and
various other performers
- Discussion Groups—Join program participants and other members in the Boskone Con Suite, our very own "living room of fandom." Discussion groups are small intimate conversations on focused topics—and we invite you to form your own group ("Birds of a Feather").
- DragonsLair/Children's Program—All
kinds of kids activities. B51 DragonsLair schedule.
- Filksinging—Filksongs are fandom's folk songs, with themes
of SF, fantasy and fannish interests. Items include theme circles,
NESFA Hymnal singing and the Featured Musician Concert. The main filk
room is Douglass, off the mezzanine near Registration.
- Gaming schedule - video & board. Gaming
has been moved up to the Harbor Ballroom prefunction area on the
second floor.
- Kaffeeklatsches—Participate in an informal
discussion with one of our program participants over coffee, tea or
soda. Attendance is limited; sign up is required.
Program Ops will have the sign up book at their desk in the
Galleria. Saturday's signup sheets at the start of
the con on Friday; Sunday's signup sheets at noon on Saturday. There
will be a few waiting list slots for each KK. B51 KK schedule.
If you get a slot, you can add a reminder sticker to your badge.
- Panels—Dozens of discussions by our
program participants.
- Readings—Hear writers read and discuss their own works.
We're bringing back book discussion this year. The purpose of the
Book Club is to get people together
to discuss a specific book. The volume under review will be
Parasite by Mira Grant
(the nom de plume our Guest, Seanan McGuire, uses for horror). Bob
Kuhn will lead the discussion
on Sunday at Boskone. Read the book and join in the discussion!
In addition to a variety of Program, Boskone runs parties and
entertainment throughout the weekend:
- Friday Night - We'll kick off the Friday night reception
with a "Meet the Guests" and Jane Yolen Birthday Party, with a
special shoutout for Dave Kyle's 95th(!!) birthday.
- Saturday Night - David G. Grubbs will MC the
evening's events. We'll start with a Filk Concert with Sassafrass.
Then, we'll have our awards presentation including the Gaughan
Award and the Skylark Award (with the traditional warning). After
the awards ceremony, we'll present the Reduced William
Shakespeare's Star Wars Reading, starring Jane Yolen, Bruce Coville,
David Grubbs, David Palumbo, Bob Kuhn, Kate Baker, Darlene Marshall,
Mary Crowell, Joan Slonczewski and John Chu. Adapted
and directed by Laurie Mann. And, following the reading, more filk
performances featuring Lady Mondegreen and Featured Filker Bill Roper.
Here's what we're planning for Gaming:
- On Saturday, jump in and demo some hot new games that haven't hit
the market yet. That's right, game designers are coming in and you
won't be disappointed.
- And don't forget about the Saturday tournament. 4 games in 5 hours
with prizes for the top 4 winners. Remember, there is no cost to
play but please make sure you have the time to play and also to sign
the sign-up sheet to guarantee your place in the tournament.
- You talked, we listened. As a result of the many suggestions for
larger televisions, two new, larger televisions are being brought in
for the video games. Now you'll really be able to see what you're
hitting in Bioshock Infinity, one of the new games we have this
year.
