Dramatic reading, Boskone 35, 14 February 1998, Sheraton Tara, Framingham.
Early in the 21st century a combination of the splintering of fandom and the obsessive academic interest in SF was a disaster to trufans. Finally, a worldwide economic collapse allowed fans to buy the extant space stations and movethe European station at L-5 was purchaed by NESFA (Secret Masters of Orbital Fandom, or SMOOFS) to allow unbridling indexing of SF; the American station at L-4 was purchased by the Starship Troopers Memorial Mercenary Legion (Jerry's Kids, the Jerry here being Pournelle), and the Mir in near-Earth orbit by the Mpls in '73 bidding committee to brew bheer in microgravity. Decades later, the results are still being felt.
